Question
ASA.
Ball 4 on the batter ... if the pitcher has the ball in the circle can the batter-runner ...if she rounds first base and hesitates, but does not completely stop, then continues on the 2nd base is that a violation?
What about the runner did not stop at first base as she continue to run and then stop midway between 1st and 2nd. Is the runner allowed one stop?
Answer
Hi Gary,
I'm not sure what you mean by "hesitates". If she fakes, jukes etc. she would be out.
Q2 I put this question to a friend of mine a while ago, here's is his answer
My buddy Bryan is one of the elite fp umpires and instructors in the country (2 NCAA championship games I know of)
hi Mark,
In this play the runner does have the right to round the base, then stop and immediatly return non-stop to first or continue non-stop onto 2nd.
In my judgement and I think others if they continue on past the half way point to second they have committed themselves to 2nd and cannot return to 1st. Up to that point I think we can use common sense and say they did round the base and can return if they meet all other guide lines of the look back rule.
If they had continued past the 1st base into the outfield area, then went towards 2nd base they cannot return to 1st or they will be out.
