signals to the batter and runners

Question
What are the signals I should use for a new competitive 12U softball team?

Answer
Hello Denise,

I would use the following signals for that age group: bunt, steal, take, fake bunt.  Any age group older than that I'd add Hit and Run, Sacrifice Bunt, Suicide bunt, slap hit.  If your referring to what you should use as signals, then there are many styles coaches use.  Probably the easiest and most common is to have some type of "indicator" such as the belt or cap.  You'd then only need one signal for each particular thing you want your player to do.  Example:  Belt as indicator, Hat is steal, Letters would be bunt, chin would be steal.  The player would know to only acknowledge the signal immediately following the indicator.  If you touched your belt, followed by your chin, then the base runner would know to steal.  You can constantly use a variety of signals without touching the indicator to throw your opponents off.  I hope this was helpful and let me know if there is anything else.
