Question
Fast Pitch Softball ASA Rules through Rec dept.

At what point can a pitcher come off the rubber?  After releasing the ball or during her wind up?  Can she take a step backwards or not?  Thank you

Answer
Hi Lisa,

In ASA play the pitcher must take one step forward with the non-pivot foot simultaneous with the release of the ball.  This involves pushing off the pitcher's plate with the pivot foot and dragging it in contact with the ground.

In ASA she cannot step backward.  In some other organizations I believe she can.
