Ball hit, but doesnt leave the batters box

2016/7/15 17:43:28

Question
A player on the other team hit a ball that never left the batter's box, but stopped in front of home plate. Exactly what is fair and what is foul regarding the batter's box?

This is a girl's minor's league in Florida.

Answer
Hi Mike,

This really has nothing to do with the batters box.  It is a fair/foul question.

If the ball settles or is 1st touched in foul territory it is a foul ball.

If the ball settles or is 1st touched in fair territory it is a fair ball.

Part of the box is in fair territory so it could be a fair ball.
