Nine Players -- Co-Ed

Question
At the beginning of the game we had 10 players: M/F battery, 2 M/ 2F infielders, 2M / 2F outfielders. On the 2nd play of the game, one F outfielder was injured. We started to resume play (just short one outfielder -- we had 2 M / 1F in the outfield, no other changes). The league supervisor stopped play and made us remove 1 M outfielder stating that we had to have the same number of M /F outfielders; however the now extra M could bat. I asked if this was a local rule -- he said no. Obviously, his ruling makes no sense, but I would like to get something more concrete than just my opinion to prove my point. Thanks!
Answer
Hi Andy,
Well I have done ASA coed many times at the highest levels both as an umpire and a tournie UIC so I have it down pretty good.
If I read your question right he made you take mF8 out of the game on defense (now you're playing 8) but mF8 could still bat (bat 9).
That's not correct...you now fall under the shorthanded rule (POE 48, 2007 ASA rule book),if you have no other F players. The only thing that happens is you take an out where the injured F player was listed in the lineup when it's their turn to bat. You will have 2 Ms bat back to back but with an out in between. You continue to play defense w/9. The f player may not return to the game (except for the blood rule) but another f player if they show up is inserted in the place of the injured player.
It's really a very simple rule
