Question
QUESTION: Can a runner run through first and turn in? If she makes no attempt toward second, and simply turns in, can she be tagged out. What is the actual rule?? Thanks!!
ANSWER: a batter-runner is not out when the b-r overruns 1st base after touching it and returns directly to the base. 8-8-i
if they do other things they can be tagged or called out, I would need a specific description.

QUESTION: I appreciate your prompt response. Do you know the actual rule number to which a runner can actually turn left or in and not make an attemp to go to second, and return to 1st base safely without being tagged out. Thanks
ANSWER: POE 37 over-running 1st base
"After over-running 1st base the b-r may legally turn to his left or his right when returning to the base. If any attempt is made to advance to 2nd....he is liable to an appeal out if tagged....while off the base.

QUESTION: One more sir...What is the ASA rule number on the ball that hits the dirt first and then hits the batter. If she makes an attampt to get out of the way and it hits her, ball is dead after it hits her and she gets a free base.
Answer
not a problem, it's my day off and we're having a winter storm, there's not much to do and I'm not in to paperwork today
the rule is 8-1-f the ball is dead and batter is awarded 1st base.
note...the rule doesn't mention the ball hitting the dirt, it isn't necessary, it simply says a pitched ball. A ball that hits the dirt by another rule continues to be live. A live pitched ball that hits a batter who does not swing and is not called a strike and attempts to get out of the way is how we get there.
