Hit/No Hit with Baserunning error

2016/7/15 17:42:07

Question
Recently, I saw a girl hit a line drive to right center field.  The ball hit the ground without a defensive player touching it.  There was a preceding runner on first base, she froze when the ball was hit, ran half way and stopped, attempted to run back to first base.  The hitter ran to first base and the center fielder threw the ball to second base to force an out.  Is this scored as a hit for the batter and a running error for the player on first base or is it simply a no-hit for the batter due to the forced out at second base?

Answer
Hello Dave,

I couldn't find this exact scenario, but I think even though the runner obviously made a poor judgement this would be scored as a fielder's choice.  Here is a link to the NFCA.ORG website (national faspitch coaches association) which has complete information on how to score most situations.

Sorry a reply took so long, but the question pool is pretty large right now, and we take them as quickly as possible.
