infield fly ball

Question
What is a infield fly ball rule? I think the ball is dead, but tonight I saw that is was not. If there are players on base and one out and there is a infield fly ball what now.

Answer
Hi Debbie,

an infield fly is called w/ runners on 1st and 2nd or bases loaded w/less than 2 outs.  It must be a fair fly ball that can be caught w/ordinary effort by an infielder inc the pitcher or catcher.

The batter is called out, the ball remains alive and runners can advance at their own risk.
