Question
I coach an 8 under softball team and we play by asa rules.Wher is the rover allowed to play?Do they have to be a certain distance from the base line between 1st and 2nd?

Answer
Hello Daniel,

I've primarily coached in USSSA sanctioned leagues and tournaments which allow every player besides the Catcher and Pitcher to position themselves anywhere they choose in fair territory at the time of the pitch.  I have played some SEAA tournaments which actually have a line drawn around the field separating the infield from the outfield in this age group and you are not permitted to have more than six people including designated pitchers and catchers within the infield side of this line.  Unfortunately I don't recall the distance this line was set at.  You may want to request this information from Dr. Mark since he is an ASA certified umpire.
