Question
If a player is on third base, player on first steals and is now on second, def. team always throws on girls stealing from 1 to 2 because player on third is not allowed to steal home.
Then over anxious 9 year old now on second is stealing 3rd on a ball passed under the catcher, but of course 3rd is occupied, and we're not allowed to steal home. This gets confusing. Def. threw the ball to third. Player from 2nd was out I'm not even sure if she was tagged or not?
Is there ever any situation in 9/10 girls when a player on 3rd, can run home other than a hit ball? It seems we encourage our catchers to throw every ball to 2nd, but we are not teaching them to make good decisions at this learning age. Could the umpire just have placed runner back on 2nd. It seems awkward not teaching runner on third to attempt to go home when they are throwing at the other runners? Ball is alive, but it's not? One more for the road.... How many bases can a runner advance on an overthrown ball at this 9/10 age?
Answer
Hi Kathy,
10UA plays by the same rules as the rest of JO
In 10uB
you can score from 3rd on
a batted ball
a base on balls
hit batter w/ bases full
an awarded base
Could the umpire just have placed runner back on 2nd,
she is liable to be put out if she comes off the base.
How many bases can a runner advance on an overthrown ball at this 9/10 age? 1 per pitch for runners starting at 1st or 2nd
