ASA Rules on number of innings pitched

2016/7/15 17:38:05

Question
Our daughters play in a ASA Fast pitch league in California. I see the Little League has guidelines set up limiting the number of innings, and now pitches a Pitcher can throw. Does ASA or fast pitch have similar guidelines?

Answer
Hello Alex,

There is no limit on pitches I'm aware of.  Some teams play with only one legit pitcher.  You see college pitchers throw an unbelievable amount of innings each week.
The softball pitching motion isn't as hard on the arm as the overhand throwing motion used in baseball and this is the reason there aren't rules in place to govern it.  I think this should be studied closer though.  I see more and more shoulder, wrist, elbow and back problems these days from girls being over-used.
