Hitter advancing to 2nd on walk

2016/7/15 17:36:26

Question
Hello,
I read a few questions regarding hitters running through first on a walk and advancing to second base.  I play in a men's slowpitch league and was wondering if the same rules apply in slow and fast pitch.  I was also confused on some of the wording you used.  If you walk and the pitcher receives the ball from the catcher before you reach first can you still attempt second base?  And you must attempt 2nd or return to 1st immediately, no stopping inbetween the bases to force a pickle?  Thanks again.

Answer
Hi Matt,

The same rules do not apply in sp and fp.  In fp the ball remains alive on a bb, in sp the ball is dead.

There is a look back rule that can be in effect in fp and no such rule in sp re: rounding 1st either on a batted ball or a bb.

If you have a specific question re things you can do in sp, feel free...
