Question
runner on first. ball is hit to shortstop. the ball takes a bad hop but is controlled and thrown to first and dropped. but at the time the ball was dropped the runner who was original on first has rounded second and was on his way to third. The umpire only gave him third base. We say that he should have been given home. Who was right. In case it matters; it was slow pitch co-ed softball
Answer
Demond,
By what your telling me, the ball was not overthrown, it was dropped. An overthrown ball is a ball that is untouched by a fielder and goes out of play, then it is an overthrown ball. If this is the case then you were incorrect, the runner is only entitiled to third.
Hope this helps.
