HIT BY LIVE BALL

2016/7/15 17:36:18

Question
Girls fast pitch.  Batter hits a hard line drive and bounces off the pitcher and hits the batter/running on their way towards first. What would the call be? Does it matter if the batter/running is in fair or foul territory?
Also, what would happen if the base runner is going from first to second and is hit by a softball after making contact with the pitcher?

         Thanks again, Doc

Answer
Hi PEAK,

In both cases if the batted ball deflected off the pitcher and the b-r or runner did not intentionally interfere with the ball, we continue to have a live ball (unless it goes out of play) and the runner is not out.

Does it matter if the batter/running is in fair or foul territory?  no
