Question
had a situation where two girls running the bases were not paying attention the girl that was on third was told to go home and didn't. The other runner was running from first and ran to third to find that her teammate was still there. both occupied third base the one girl took about three steps towards home and the other ran back to 2nd and the the one that was going towards home went back to third both safely? Anyway My question is can one base be occupied by two runners at the same time? I looked but am unable to find anything on this in the rule book ASA fast pitch.
Answer
Hi Shell,
Well 2 runners can occupy the same base at the same time but one of them is liable to be out if tagged while on the base.
In this case R1 is legally entited to 3rd and R2 is not. If R2 was tagged while on the base they would be out.
Since there was no tag on this play and R2 retreated safely to an unoccupied base there is no violation.
