Altered Bat.....

2016/7/15 17:35:15

Question
a team in our league was discovered using an altered bat.  They were the second place team.  As a manager I just got an email saying the team is out of the league for the rest of the season and that the remainder of thier games are forfeited.  It turns out the 2 teams who have to play them are both getting automatic wins and are both 1 game ahead of us in the standings.  Why does the whole league not get 2 wins?  Why do any games count that were played by a team who has been kicked out?  I do not like this rule at all.  Side note..the commisioners team lost both games before realizing they had an illegal bat. All of sudden those 2 losses are now wins and we split with this team in week 1 and we are penalized because of when we played them.

Answer
Hi Mark,

This is not an ASA rule but rather a local league rule and you might want to talk to the league about something you consider more fair.

I agree however the penalties for using an altered or banned bat should be severe.

In ASA play the batter is out, ejected from both the game and the tournament.
