swings too fast

Question
My daughter(13) plays fastpitch softball and is a very intense player.  My question is: her swing is so fast that she hits the ball out in front and they always are awesome hits but they go foul.  What can we do to help her?  We have been told to use a heavier bat, move back in the batters box, and change her batting stance.  We want to do what is best for her.  Her bat speed is something some people would kill for but it is hindering her.  Thank you.

Answer
I have had to deal with the same problem from my oldest daughter this season.  What I have done with her is something I see many college players do.  Have your daughter pivot around into a bunt stance while holding her bat in the bunt position.  She will need to maintain this position until the pitcher is in the middle of her windup.  By taking the bat back to the normal position just in time to start her swing, she will be automatically adjusting her timing without really taking anything away her swing.  She will obviously have to adjust when she returns to her pre-swing position depending on how fast the pitcher is.  If she is continuing to pull everything foul, maintain the bunt position a little longer.  This will take a little time to get used to, but I have had a lot of success.

Please make sure she doesn't wait too late to get into the bunt position.  This can be done while the pitcher is taking her signals.  The move from bunt to pre-swing then to swing, should be one fluid motion after she figures it out.  The bat is held still while in the bunt position and upper hand need not be up the barrel as much as it would be for an actual bunt, no need to waggle the bat as some girls do on a fake bunt.  The less unnecessary movement in a swing the better.  One benefit to this, after she has batted once or twice, infielders will ignore the bunt stance and this provides a great opportunity to actually lay a bunt down.

Let me know if this helps.
