pitching-contact with rubber at mound

Question
When the pitcher of a slow pitch arc game pitches, does her foot have to be in contact with the rubber at all times?  We had a game where our pitcher maintained and always maintains contact with the mound.  The other teams' pitcher (who doesn't normally pitch) kept taking two steps off the mound and broke contact with the rubber.  This threw off the timing and space between her and the batter.

Hi carol,

In ASA at present in sp the pitcher's pivot foot must remain in contact with the plate until the ball leaves the hand.  If you were playing ASA this would be an illegal pitch.

In some other orgs. there is a pitching "area" behind the pitcher's plate that the pitcher is allowed to deliver the ball from.
