On Base Average

2016/7/15 17:33:44

Question
Does getting on base by way of a defensive error count toward your On Base Average.....?

Answer
Hello Mike,

No defensive errors are not factored into on base percentage.  They would only count toward official plate appearances in the denominator portion of the formula.  Here is the formula:

On Base Percentage (OB%) = (base on balls + hit by pitch + hits) / (sacrifice flys + base on balls + hit by pitch + official at bats)

I hope this helps.
