Slow Pitch rules

Question
Hello Mike - I have asked the same question to Dr. Mark to which he responded and I am asking you for a second opinion. I started using a different technique last week by swinging my pitching arm outward ...kinda underarm grenade toss delivering at around the "4 o'clock area" instead of the traditional "6 o'clock" area. the umpire told me it's a illegal pitch. According to the rules the pitching arm must be "below the hip". Using the clock face how far outward past the hip can I pitch the ball?
Answer
Hello Mickey,
The umpire told you correctly that this is illegal. By rule, the wrist cannot be further away from the body than the elbow at release. On some pitches such as the drop they will allow the wrist to be slightly outside, but you'll never get away with a "4 o'clock delivery". Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

My apologies, Mickey, I re-read your subject line after I answered and didn't notice that you were referring to slowpitch. I don't have a slowpitch rulebook with me, but I'll check that and update my answer tommorrow for you. Again, sorry for the mistake.
Okay, Mickey, I don't think you are pitching illegal. As long as you have a definite underhand motion and meet the height and speed requirements for slowpitch, I don't see that you are breaking any rules. If you let your wrist go too far away from the body, it may appear to be a side-arm motion which would be illegal..Unfortunately, I don't think the rules specify the angle, therefore it would be at the umpires discretion. Sorry it took me so long to follow up, my son started Football scrimmages this week and I've been tied up with that.
