pitcher hit by line drive

Question
I was pitching in a slowpitch softball game ASA rules and a line drive drilled me in the head.  Apparently the umpires did not see it happen until it was obvious I was injured and my teammates were not paying attention to the game but to my injury.  The ball that hit me was deflected to right field and although I was hurt and my team was surrounding me the umpire wouldn't call dead ball because "the ball wasn't in the infield".  The other team was advancing bases...the batter advanced to 2nd base and the other runner scored on the play (she started on 1st base).  What would be the correct call in this situation.

Answer
Hi Julie,

I think it's time you bought a helmet-face guard combo, more and more pitcher's are wearing protective gear.  Today's bats are just too hot to be 50' away.

It doesn't matter where the ball is, if a player is injured and needs attention the umpire should call time and then award the bases the runner(s) would have made in their judgement if they had not called time.
