Question
I am in a men's slowpitch league.  Is there a rule that allows a player to only play in the field and to not bat?

Answer
Hi Reed,

In strict ASA play in slowpitch everyone has to bat.  Using an EP all 11 bat and any 10 play defense.  You can't do it the other way around....sorry

Hi again, Reed,

thank you for your rating, however upon further thought there is 1 situation in slowpitch where a player can play defense only and that is under the ADA rule.  A physically challenged player that meets the requirements of the ADA act can play defense only.  They are called a flex player, may never play offense and must be made known prior to the start of the game.

This rule does not apply to normally able-bodied players who are injured.  The player must have a permanent physical disability that meets ADA requirements.

I must tell you I have never seen this rule used in the thousands of games I have umpired, uiced or observed.
