Question
pitching regulations fast pitch. 2006 ASA is the book I am currently looking at. pretty sure same as 2007. on an illegal delivery by the pitcher. i.e. the stopping of forward motion or double windmill. the rules in section 6 1-3 do not give me an effect. problem. no balk in softball. got it. but if the pitcher stops her forward motion because my lead squares to bunt and catches the pitcher off guard and she stops. is it a ball, runners advance or what is the ruling. ill try to explaing my next question. short and sweet. pitcher is bringing the ball forward above her head, then backwards behind her hips before she ever starts her full windmill delivery. legal or not. im not arguing with the blue or the other coaches. i just want the pitcher to be correctly informed before regulation spring ball starts. fall is just a practice season. thanks, jay
Answer
Hi Jay,
It's farther down in the book, 6 sec 8 effect "any infractions of sec 1-5,7, 8 is an illegal pitch." Illegal pitch penalties would apply.
If the pitcher brings the ball up with her hands together, separates them, and then drops her arm to the side and the rear and then begins her windmill motion, that is a legal pitch.
