Infield fly -additional info

Question
Being an amateur coach for my wifes softball side we have to do our share of umpiring. Quite happy to do plate as we are a low grade.

Question:
With an infield fly ball - runners on 1 and 2 - less than 2 out - batter is out - I believe if ball is caught runners have to tag up before running. Correct?

If the ball is not caught are they still required to tag up before running?
I have had conflicting answers to this.

Your answer would be much appreciated.

Cheers
David

Answer
Hi David,

Correct.... also with bases loaded and less than 2 outs.

If the ball is not caught are they still required to tag up before running?
I have had conflicting answers to this.

The correct answer is that runners advance at their own risk on an infield fly, so if the ball is not caught, the batter is still out but there is no need for the runners to tag to advance.
