Question
Hi Scott,

I am looking for ways to motivate kids in junior high (grades 7-9) to "set up to the plate" for my school's slow-pitch team.  I am going to be co-coaching with one of my friends, because we're out of the age range to play.  We have one of the teachers as the main coach.  There may be some more info that would help you to determine the next move, but what I've told you here should minimally suffice.

Thanks,
David

Answer
If I am understanding the question, getting the kids to get into the box in the proper position. Fast pitch is difficult because kids are new to the speed of the ball or afraid of being hit. Slow pitch kids should not have this problem.
What I do to get them in there is to introduce them to the proper position, and slowly work them from away to closer, all the while correcting their mistakes. Encourage them of proper stance as well as the proper position in the box.
Good luck, Coach Suthe.
