Question
If I have a left hander playing first base, what foot do they put on the bag when catching a ball in play?  Also, if I have a right hander playing first base, what foot do they put on the bag when catching a ball in play?  I have two coaches disputing this information.

Answer
Glove side foot extends with the glove for the catch.  Hand side foot stays on the bag.

To show the coaches the correct way, demonstrate the catch with the glove side foot extending and then the hand side foot extending.  I think that you will find it uncomfortable to extend the hand side foot when catching.  Also, your reach is much better with the glove side foot extending.

One other thing you might mention is that it is impossible for the anybody to make a quick throw after the putout with their hand side foot in front of them.
