Question
If A catcher catches a tipped 3rd strike in his equipment is batter out ?

Answer
No.  A tipped ball that goes directly to the the catcher's glove is considered a foul tip and is treated like any other strike.  If the tipped ball does no go directly to the catcher's glove it is considered a foul ball.  Catches must be made with the glove or bare hand.  A ball lodging in the catchers equipment is not a catch.
