Tag Rule

Question
A fly ball is hit to left-center field.  Runner on third comes back to tag.  The ball hits off the center fielder's glove.  The runner on third goes home.  Now before the ball hits the ground, the left fielder dives and catches it?  Did the runner leave too early?  I know the rule states, "Baserunners are entitled to advance with liability to be put out when a legally caught fly ball is first touched."  Since the ball was not legally caught by the center fielder does that first touch apply to the left fielder instead?

Answer
Hi Mike,

Actually 8-4-d says "when a legally caught fly ball is first touched by any defensive player".

I have used the extreme example to answer this question in the past of R1 at 1st and a high, sharp line drive that deflects off F6s' leaping glove, carries into lf and is caught by F7.  R1 can legally leave 1st as soon as F6 touched the ball.
thanks for the question
