ASA vs. Little League

2016/7/15 17:27:16

Question
What are the main differences between playing softball by ASA rules, and playing softball under Little League rules?

Answer
Pitching:  LL requires days of rest depending on innings pitched, no such rule in ASA.  ASA both feet must be touching the pitchers plate when the starting the pitch, no step back is allowed.  Not so in LL.

Stealing:  The runner may not leave the base until the ball crosses the plate for 12U down.  ASA all ages and LL are the same for 14U up.

Those are the two major differences that will get you in trouble.  Generally speaking LL is more regulated than ASA.  LL has more restrictions on stealing, different interference penalties based on age.  Generally speaking it appears that LL would be more difficult to call because of the rules.  ASA is considered the best source of softball rules.

You asked a very broad question.  I hope this answer helps you.  If you have any questions regarding specific rules please post a follow-up.
