error or hit?

Question
Runner on first base, batter hits ground ball up the middle just to the right of the pitcher. Shortstop makes a great play to stop the ball, but then throws the ball a bit too quickly for the secondbaseman to handle the throw at second base. Runner from first arrives at second the same time the throw came in. It must have been a hit and run for the batter. Do you score a hit since all runners were safe or an error since the secondbaseman dropped the ball as the runner reached base? This is Indiana high school softball.
Answer
Scenario 1: Great play by the SS just to stop the ball, very little time to make a play gets rid of the ball as quickly as possible but due to the difficulty of the play the throw is not easily catchable by F4. Hit
Scenario 2: Great play by the SS just to stop the ball, very little time to make a play gets rid of the ball as quickly as possible and makes a perfect throw that was easily catchable by F4 that would have beaten the runner, but F4 did not make the catch. Error
This is a judgement call. If your still not sure, the batter gets the benefit of the doubt for the hit.
