co-ed softball on minimum number of players

2016/7/15 17:25:47

Question
what is the minimum number of players you can play with in co-ed softball?  How many have to be women?  I had a game where the away team only had 8 players of which three were women.  When the ninth spot came up in the line-up i ruled an automatic out.  Was this correct?

Answer
Hi John,

I've found that many, many leagues have their own rules on this to avoid forfeits.

In strict ASA play you need 9 to start the co-ed game and take an out in the 10th spot.  You need 5 and 4 either sex, you couldn't play with 6 and 3 or in your case 5 and 3.
