Question
I had a runner on 3rd and the batter was walked on four pitches. I had the batter run to the base and she took a turn to 2nd but then came back to first. The umpire called her out for attempting to steal and not running all the way to second. She was never tagged out and the picture never even made a play on her. This is Minor league girls softball. It just seems to me that each park makes up their own rules for each game.

Answer
Rodney,

Your runner was called out for violating the look back rule.  Some umpires do not apply this correctly, some volunteers don't even know the rule.

In a nutshell, on a walk the runner can make a short round of first, pick up where the ball is and immedialty go to a base.  It doesn't matter which one.
