High school softball runner interference

2016/7/15 17:25:36

Question
Runner on First and Second.  Ball hit to second basemen before she fields the ball the runner ran into her.  She fielded the ball and threw it to first for an out.  Umpire calls runner interference.  PLay dead.  Batter gets to stay on first and runner on second advances to third.  How would you call it?

Answer
The ball is called dead at the time of interference.  Based on your description of the situation.  Runner going to 2nd out.  Runner on second must stay on second.  Batter is on first.

If the interference is judged intentional to break up a double play, runner going to 2nd is out, runner going to 3rd is out, batter is on first if there are not 3 outs.
