DOUBLE FORFEIT

2016/7/15 17:24:40

Question
I am in charge of an 8 team playoff tournament for my women's softball league.  We may have a situation this weekend where two teams slated to play each other will forfeit in the first round.  What happens if they both forfeit and end up in the loser's bracket?  I haven't a clue.  Can you get back to me ASAP as the tourney starts Sunday?  Thanks for any info you can give me.

Answer
Hi Barbara,

This should be in time, it's very simple

The following steps should be taken when a double forfeit is declared in the winner's bracket only.  This of course applies to the 1st round.

01 )Coin Flip. The Tournament Director shall flip a coin. The winner of the flip ( Team A ) shall be placed in the advanced position of the winner's bracket as though they had won the game. The team losing the flip shall be placed in the loser's bracket as though they had lost the game.

02 )Team A. Team A automatically loses the game they were placed in and drops down into the corresponding loser's bracket.  So even if team A is present for that game, they do not play, lose and go to the loser's bracket.

NOTE:Under no circumstances does either team play another game in the winner's bracket.
