Question
I would like to know if a girl can steal home plate when another girls walks to first.  We have the rule book (NFHS 2006)and we couldn't find anything on it.  We were told that as long as the girl keeps walking then they can steal homp plate, we don't think its right but would like to know for sure before we say anything.

  Thank you
  Carol

Answer
Carol,

As long as the ball is not dead and the runner on third is not violating the look back rule, there is never anything wrong with stealing home.

It is common in rec league play to place limits on stealing especially at the younger ages.  The younger girls simply have not developed the defensive skills to stop a runner from stealing.

In my local rec league at the 12U level you may only steal one base per pitch and there in no stealing of home.

As far as straight NFHS rules, no problem stealing home.
