Question
I am wondering if we are just splitting atoms but I have a question in regards to pitching. I umpire at the high school level. During todays game a coach had a question regarding a visiting teams pitchers delivery. He stated that he had been told that the ball had to go inside the glove of the pitcher for at least a count of one second. We told him this was true. We also told him our interpretation was that the ball had to go inside the glove. If this is one second great. If it is more than one second also great.
I guess what I am trying to state is that the coach thought the pitcher wasn't putting the ball inside the glove for one second. I believe this is all relative. If it went inside the glove it was at least one second. I believe he was playing word games??
Let me know what you think.

Cancel what I said previously about the ball going in the glove. It is not required. Based on another question on this forum, I have done extensive research on this. ASA and NFHS only require the hands to touch. That is considered together.
There is no language in the rules or case books that describe what together is. So there is no language that supports an umpires requirement that the ball goes into the glove when the hands come together.
