Foul Ball - Infield

2016/7/15 17:23:41

Question
If a grounder is hit down the 3rd baseline, and rolling fair, then rolls out of play and then back into fair territory and stops in fair territory before it reaches 3rd base, is the ball fair or foul?

Answer
Hi Julie,

Rolling "out of play" is not the same as it rolling into foul territory which is what I think you mean.

This would be a fair ball

A ball is fair or foul depending on where it settles or is first touched between home and a base.  If it settles or is 1st touched in fair territory it is a fair ball.  Likewise the opposite is true.  Between the bases it doesn't matter where it 1st lands only where it settles or is 1st touched.
