Question
My daughter who is 12 just moved up to Senior League (12,13,and 14 year olds). On the team there are 5 12 year olds and 7 older girls. The coach constantly tells 3 of the 12 year olds that they are the subs. They don't always participate in practice and they don't warm up before a game as he is working with the "starters". The last game they were losing 16 - 0 and then he put the subs in. The end score was 22 - 3 and he still had the never to say the defense was doing OK until the subs went in. I don't want to be one of those complaining parents, but I don't believe my daughter and others are getting the instruction that they paid for. I would be OK if they didn't play in a game, but don't ignore them during practice and blame them for the losses (there hasn't been any wins). I practice with my daughter and we head out to the batting cages a couple of times a week. Any help you can give me on what to do or say would be great.
Answer
Pat,
From the sounds of it, there isn't anything you can say that would make a difference with this guy. It sounds like you are talking about little league. Couldn't a 12yo play majors?
If possible, I would look for an alternative to this team. Is there a 12U travel team locally that could use your daughter?
The only other suggestion is to coach a team yourself.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Tom
