appeal for running leaving early

2016/7/15 17:23:11

Question
Runners at 3rd and 2nd with 1 out.  FLy ball to center that is caught for second out.  Runners tag and as a result of the play both runners (from 3rd and 2nd) score.  A live ball appeal is made at 3rd base for that runner leaving early after both runs cross home plate.  The runner that was at 3rd is called out for leaving early and that is the third out.   My question is since this was not a force out does the runner who was at second run count or do no runs count since the third out was on the unner who was at third?

Answer
Hi Jackie,

By rule 8-3-f the run does not count from R2.

It is a still timing play  but while any "preceding" runs would count (and in this case there are none), no "succeeding runs may.

Example... 2 out, bases loaded, home run, R3 misses 3rd, dead ball appeal...how many runs score....2...R1 and 2 would count but not B1 as he was successive to R3 even though he had crossed the plate at the time of the appeal.
