Question
If the fielder touches the orange part of first base,( ball in possession)  but not white part of base before runner get to first base is the runner out?

Answer
Hi John,

depends where the throw is coming from.

If the throw is coming from foul territory or on an errant throw that pulls the defense off the white portion into foul ground the runner and the defense may use either portion.

if these situations do not apply the runner would be safe as the defense must touch the white portion.
