Game ejection

Question
My daughters 16U ASA team recently had a player ejected and it prompted me to ask this question: Runner on first, no outs. Batter hits ball, fielders choice to get the force at 2nd. The SS was standing directly on the bag slightly before the runner arrived. The runner pulled up and crossed her arms and stopped on the bag without over-running. There was contact with the SS and she fell back. The runner was called out and was ejected from the game. Was this an appropriate call? Even the coaches on the other team didn't agree.
Answer
Hi Kirk,
The rule states that the runner is out when a defensive player has the ball and the runner remains upright and crashes into the defensive player, if the act is flagrant the offender is also ejected.
This doesn't sound like a crash or that it was flagrant and it could be some overumpiring, but I didn't see it. I would use it as a learning experience, veer off one way or another, slide , whatever, if your out get out of the way. If F6 was attempting a dp and this happened you could also have another out. Never give an umpire an opportunity to call an out.
