softball pitching: harmful to 10yr old arm

2016/7/15 17:21:16

Question
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. My daughter took
pitching lessons for softball this year. Her coach was/is amazing.
My daughter's dad feels that she will hurt her arm pitching at such a young age.
I tried explaining to him everything that her coach and others have said but I
would like an outsiders opinion. Thank you, Ericka

Answer
Hi Ericka,

I've got daughters also and I know how dad's can be.

Softball pitching is a natural movement of the arm unlike baseball.

it's the leg fatigue that usually limits pitching and not arm fatigue.

As w/ most things in life common sense should prevail with the amount of training and pitching.

Your coach should have the young lady's best interest at heart and enough experience and skill to protect her.  Your involvement and monitoring in this is also important.

have the dad take her to a sport physician or sport pt for an initial eval and consult re his concerns.
