Interference / Runners obligation

2016/7/15 17:21:05

Question
Runner on 1st advances towards second on a fair ball hit to F5.  F5 flips ball to F4 for the force out.  F4 attempts a DP to F3 but the throw hits the (now out) runner.  The runner was warned for interference.  The umpire said the runner had a responsibility to slide or veer out of the base path.  What responsibility does the runner have by rule in this situation?

Answer
Hi Dane,

The runner already put out has the responsibility to get out of the way and allow the throw.

There is no warning for interference, dead ball and because the runner was already out, the runner closest to home is also out.

This is a no-brainer interference call.
