Strike Zone in slow pitch softball.

Question
My friend and I are having an arguement over where exactly the strike zone is.  We agree that it is knee and back shoulder, however he says that if it hits anywere on or behind home plate it is a strike.  I remember it being if it hits the plate itself it's a ball, if it hits the black edging behind the plate or anywhere behind the plate it is a strike, whether you are playing with a mat or not.  Please tell me which one of us is correct!  Thanks!

Answer
Hi laura,

Sorry neither one of you...

Unless the ball hits the plate it's NEVER where the ball lands that determines if it's a strike or not.  It's where it crosses over the space that defines the strike zone on a batter.

A pitch that hits ANY part of the plate is a ball in ASA sp.
