Question
Team A has only 9 players (ie no subs). 1 player gets hurt leaving Team A with only 8 players.  The umpire announces that when Team A comes to bat, the rule is if the injured player cannot bat, that it will count as an out.  Is this the correct ruling?

Answer
Hi chris,

mostly correct or could be fully correct,depends.... when you play shorthanded an out is taken where the vacant batter's position is.

If the player did not leave the game due to the blood rule but some other reason (ie pulled hamstring or twisted ankle) they are not allowed to return to the game.  So they can't bat if it's something other than the blood rule, they are out of the game.
