Question
QUESTION: Can the catcher on an errant throw, reach back an touch
home plate with his glove hand without the ball in it. Also
does the same rule apply to a force out at any base

ANSWER: Hi Allan,

All that is necessary for a force out in any game of softball at any base is the ball must be controlled in the hand or glove and also having contact with the base.

FP umpires semi-joke that if the girl had the ball in their hand or glove, tripped and fell and their ponytail touched the base, we have an out.

OK

QUESTION: AN OUTFIELDER CATCHES A BALL, TAKES ONE STEP AND COLLIDES
WITH ANOTHER OUTFIELDER AND DROPS THE BALL.  IT IS MY
BELIEF THERE IS NO CATCH.  AM I CORRECT

Answer
Hi Allan,

thank you for the kind eval.

that would be correct, umpires always want to see a voluntary release

part of the def of no catch is a fielder while gaining control collides w/ another player ....and drops the ball as a result of the collision...
