Baserunner interference

Question
In a 16U game today we had a call that confused everyone. We had runners on 2nd and third. A ground ball was hit to the shortstop. She fielded the ball cleanly without any runner interference. As she was setting up to throw our runner went by her but did not touch her. She then threw to first and the throw was late getting there. So the run scored and we had girls at 1st and 3rd. The base umpire then went down and had a conversation with the homeplate umpire and we were called for interference by our baserunner for not giving the girl enough room to throw. Does this sound right?
Answer
Hi chris,
part of what is not right is interference is called as soon as it occurs and is a dead ball, that was not done here.
Interference is the act... that impedes, hiders or confuses a defensive player attempting to execute a play. It is a judgment call and contact is not necessary.
W/out seeing the play I have no idea if F6 was hindered but interference should be called immediately not after the play.
