Catchers box?

Question
Is there such a thing as the catcher's box, and if so where is it? In a recent game I was involved in as the catcher I was accused of "grounding" my mitt and not staying within the catcher's box. The opposing batters were standing very deep as the batter's box was completely erased. I was placing my mitt directly behind the plate for my pitcher to throw strikes. After two consecutive "strike" pitches were deemed illegal that was the explanation given.
Answer
HI Steve,
Yes there is a catcher's box, it is 10' long beginning at the end lines of the bb and 8.5' wide.
You must in sp stay w/in the cb until the ball is hit, touches the ground or batter or reaches the catcher's box.
"by the book" the umpire was correct, your glove being on the ground right behind the plate constitutes you not being in the box. If your glove is not touching the ground you are considered in the box if the rest of you is in the box.
That being said, unless the umpire perceives you are causing the batter problems it's in my experience an uncommon call.
