Question
major divison softball girls....we have 1 out, runner on third base, the batter walks and runs hard to first and rounds first to go to second (without hesitation),the pitcher is in the circle but not on the pitchers mound. The umpire called the girl running to second out? i told the umpire as long as she doesn't hesitate then she is safe, but he still proceeded to call her out?

Answer
Hi Sara,

Well you're both wrong.

When the pitcher has control of the ball in the circle (she need not be on the pp) a batter-runner may round 1st base, stop once, and then immediately advance to 2nd non stop or retreat to 1st non stop.  Of course if there is no stop that's ok.

There is absolutely no reason, if it happened exactly as you told me for the b-r to be called out and you should next time protest it immediately as a mis-application of the playing rules.  This is a basic rule of fp softball.
