Is it scored as a double?

2016/7/15 17:15:59

Question
The batter hits the ball to right center (there was no error involved) and the coach tells her to come on to third.  The relay throw gets to third before the runner and she is tagged out. Does the batter get credit for a double?  How do you score this in the scorebook?  Thanks for your reply.

Answer
Hey Jim,  I want to apologize for my earlier response.  In my haste to answer your question I provided you with an incorrect response.  I don't know what I was drinking that day, but I was way off on my answer.  I was bugged by this and finally approached a couple of other coaches with your inquiry.  The play would be classified as a hit, an on-base (double), and a put-out.

Again, my apologies for my earlier response.  Trust me when I say I am paying for it now.  They should make a new TV show called, "When Friends Ridicule".  I would be famous.

Take care!

Shane
